Firstly, engineers with MIT and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia developed a new system to control water with visible light. This system could be utilized in microfluidic devices, as well as petroleum production systems.
Next, a Yale team developed a model to predict the Global Mean Surface Temperature (GMST) of the Earth for 2017. The GMST for 2017 is predicted to be a skosh cooler than 2015 or 2016.
Thirdly, Harvard affiliates Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) developed an app that can 98% accurately predict infertility in men. A video is provided below, courtesy of Harvard University’s YouTube page.
Additionally, Oxford University’s Health Protection Research Unit published a study on controlling the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Low-risk hospitals seem to be pivotal.
Also, Stanford researchers have assembled and watched forebrain circuits form functioning circuits with other neurons in real time. This activity is analagous to fetal development.
Finally, University of Florida chemists have developed software that will help develop medicines faster. The software could help bring development times down from decades to months, faster than anything previously available.
